Mechanism of Oxygen Concentrator Used in Hospital and Home

Oxygen concentrators  are used to produce oxygen which is concentrated up to 95 %. Nitrogen and water vapours present in air are removed during this process .

USES

  1. They are commonly used to supply oxygen to patients in Hospitals and Home
  2. They are also used as a backup option of oxygen supply in remote hospitals where delivery of oxygen is un reliable .

Mechanism

We have two cylinders like structure in which zeolite is used to form lattice like structure which act as a sieve or mesh and filter out o2 and argon molecules from compressed air .
water and nitrogen molecules get trapped in sieve

At  a time only one cylinder is used to make concentrated oxygen and another one is heated up so that nitrogen and water molecules are released .

Maximum 95 % concentration of oxygen and 5 % argon is produced  by it .
Personal oxygen concentrators may supply up to 10 litres/ min  oxygen .

Advantages

  • They are a cheap and reliable
  • reduce the dependency on oxygen delivery

Disadvantages

  • hypoxic mixture is produced when used in low flow in closed breathing circuit .
  •  need uninterrupted power supply .

Safety

  • CAN CAUSE FIRE so fire safety measure are compulsory

  1. Hi dear,

Thank you for this wonderful post. It is very informative and useful. I would like to share something here too.VARON is founded in 2021. Adhering to the concept of providing practical and preferential oxygen concentrators for more people with hypoxia, the brand continues to optimize products, and has been committed to internationalizing our products and passing our ideas to the world. At present, VARON's main product is oxygen concentrator, which is sold in many countries/regions including the United States.
