First off all we have to understand that today in the field of Surgery their are many Departments which function together to make the surgery Smooth , infection free , pain less , economic and efficient . 

For  example  Anesthesia Department responsible for anaesthesia , Central Sterile Supply Department responsible for Sterile supply to the Operation  theatre etc . 

but in this article i am going to focus in the field of  surgery .

There are many Advancement in the field of surgery 

1.  Use of TELESCOPE in Surgery : 

Now days most of the general surgery are done through telescope like laproscopic cholecystectomy , laproscopic hernia repair , laproscopic liver surgery and many more .

today not only general surgery department other departments like urology , ENT, PEDIATRIC ETC . ARE ALSO USING this technique .

Story of Laproscopic surgery / Fact of Laproscopic surgery :

laproscopic procedures were first tried by gynae surgeons but now days most of the general surgery cases are done with this technique .

benefits of laproscopic surgery over open surgery :

 1. less traumatic 

2. less healing time 

3. less blood loss 

4. less chances of surgical site infection 

2. Use of Sterilized instruments, equipments and other articles  :

with the development in the field of sterilization we have different 100% effective sterilization techniques and devices that have minimized the infection . 

some sterilization techniques are :

3. ETO 

4. Gas plasma sterilization etc .

 3. Advancement of imaging system :

there are many types of scan available now that help the surgeon to know the exact cause and accurate location of the problem or disease in body so that they can perform less traumatic less invasive surgical procedures .

5. ULTRASOUND ETC. 

4. DEVELOPMENT OF MICROSCOPE   AND MICROSCOPIC INSTRUMENTS :

IN THE NEURO SURGERY WHERE WE HAVE TO WORK IN BRAIN OR WITH  NERVES WE NEED state of the art devices . Microscope shows the enlarged view of the site which help the surgeon to do the surgery of brain and nerves . Microscopic instruments with microscope makes the brain and nerves surgery possible . 

5. Development of Sutures :

today we have various types of suture . we have absorbable , non absorbable , synthetic and natural , braided and non braided , multi mono filament etc. 

we use these sutures according to the need of surgery . 

synthetic sutures like vycril , nylon  dont react with body . 

now days Skin stapler are  also used very much . it saves time . and do the same work that stures do .

also now we have skin glue also .

6. Development in instruments :

ELECTROSURGICAL UNITS  , HARMONIC SCALPEL , LIGA SURE are playing  very important role in surgery . they are used to coagulate the bleeders , to dissect the tissue with very less or controlled bleeding . 

7. implants :

 now days we have very high performing , efficient body implants . like implants used in knee replacement , hip replacement , fractures ( dynamic compressing plates , screws of different types ) etc. 

8. advancement in transplant of body organs :

now we have several techniques , devices and procedures that make the body part transplant successful .

devices like : heart lung machine , dialysis etc. 

procedures like  perfusion of kidney after taking it out from donar.

techniques : surgical techniques which is  safe    

9.  Separation of doctors i.e. Doctors /Surgeon for particular part of body :

 Today there are different doctors with different specialization . that makes them more effective more accurate in their specialties .  when they work together they do brilliant work like  ortho surgeon fixes bones  while  plastic surgeon  repairs skin .

10.   Entry of Operation Theatre  Technologists :

 Operation Theatre Technologists have replaced and are going to replace Nurses from the Operation room  . O.T. TECHS are paid less then Nurse . hence more economical , more specialized to operation theatre and they are trained to each and every type of work  done in O.R.
