How to use Vertical Autoclave ( Practical Steps )

HOSPIRENT SURGICAL AUTOCLAVE 

for easy understanding i have divided whole process in 3 parts 

1. generation of steam in the outer chamber of autoclave 
2. cooking 
3. drying of instruments pack and drums .

GENERATION OF STEAM IN OUTER CHAMBER 

step 1:  check the water level  

water level in autoclave 

step 2:  fill water as per required 

filling water in autoclave 

ideal water level in autoclave 

step 3:  after adequate water level is attained  close the valve  FROM WHERE YOU WERE  FILLING 

close valve in autoclave 

step 4 : start heating / steam generating  process by 

1. check all the valves , all the valves should be closed . ( closed valve is perpendicular to the piping system )
   
   
   
2. switch on the main circuit board or main switch 
   
   
   
3. now ensure that all the five  valves are closed . 
4. after it turn ON Alarm switch and Boiler Switch 

control board of autoclave 

step 5 : now it will take approximately 45 min to generate steam till that time prepare your instruments sets and drum for sterilization , ensure autoclave tape (sigma indicator tape ) is pasted and  date of sterilization  is mentioned on it .

also check  the drum window/ vents  are opened 

open the vents of drum 

keep all your drums and pack in the autoclave .

step 6:  after 45 min alarm will be activated when adequate pressure is generated in the outer chamber of autoclave .

turn off the alarm and boiler switch ..

1. COOKING OF INSTRUMENTS 

as we have now generated steam in the outer chamber of autoclave now we have to send this steam in the inner chamber ( which contains all the instruments )

Step 7 : lock the door of autoclave

1. by pressing the foot paddle you will be able to slide the door on  the inner chamber

2. now slide it on the inner chamber

3. release the pressure from the foot paddle and door will fall in the gap 

now slide this lever to lock the door .

4.  after it Rotate the handle wheel in  clockwise direction 

keep on rotating until you hear the click sound 2 -3 times .

5. now again check all the five   valves must be in closed position

 

till now we have locked the inner chamber securely .

now we have to release the steam in the inner chamber 

step 8:  open the valve which connects outer chamber to inner chamber 

as soon as you will open the valve you will listen gas sound .also the pressure meter above the autoclave door will rise . 

                                               

step 9 : now again  we will start  the alarm  and boiler 

                                                     

it will approximately will take 2 - 4 min and ALARM will ring 

step 10 : stop the alarm by turning off the switch of alarm and boiler 

 

now we have adequate  pressure in both inner and outer chamber of autoclave 

now we will keep this pressure maintained for 40 minutes  so  

step 11 : Rotate the timer to 40 min 

wait for 40 minutes ..

DRYING THE INSTRUMENTS SET AND DRUMS 

AFTER 40 MIN 

instruments are sterilized but wet 

to dry them we have to open the door of autoclave so

step 12 : close the valve that connects the inner chamber and outer chamber ( releases the steam from outer chamber to inner chamber )

step 13 : now open the releasing valve which releases the  steam of inner chamber to atmosphere   

wait for few minutes

 step 14 : as soon as the pressure gauze shows 0  rotate the door wheel in anticlockwise direction

slide the locking lever back to its position 

step 15 : again press the foot paddle (so that it is lifted )  and slide the door to the back side 

cover lid of autoclave 

step 16 : now again set the timer for 40- 60 minutes 

come back after 40 min close the MCB 

step 17 : Instrument set and drums are dried .  remove them ( they will be very hot ) 

special care with drums 

close the vents of the drums
